20. Resource Management
20.1. Resource Management ("Gross / Net Duration")
Usually, "gross times" are used in projects in the automotive supply industry. This means that a
certain period of time is specified for the completion of a task (the "gross duration"), in which the
task itself, with a normally much shorter duration (the "net duration"), stands.
If you would only strive for to work with "net duration", or rather call it "effort", then everything
would have to be planned down to the smallest detail (e.g., with only "net times" of all tasks).
Although this would correspond with the approach of perfect resource management, the effort
and the yielded result would not be in any reasonable proportion. In order to get the real "net
time" documented to some extent, you can add a column (a field) in which the hours are then
recorded exactly how long the task was performed. This has the advantage that the time required
for subsequent projects can then be better estimated.
Note: The "net duration" can also be called "work effort".
